12. Responsible consumption and production

"Should the global population reach 9,600 million people by 2050, the equivalent of almost three planets will be required to sustain the current lifestyle."

Excessive use of water contributes to the global water stress. More than 1,000 million people still do not have access to drinking water.

Households consume 29 per cent of global energy and consequently contribute to 21 per cent of resultant CO2 emissions.

The food sector accounts for around 30 per cent of the world’s total energy consumption and accounts for around 22 per cent of total greenhouse gas emissions.

COMMITMENTS

  1. Promote projects that use biodegradable, reusable or recyclable materials.
  2. Promote the circular economy model in the sector.
  3. Draw innovation projects that promote ecodesign.
  4. Develop sustainable business models that foster the circular economy
  5. Be a reference in circular economy within the sector.
  6. Align with the European Green Deal Strategy.

TARGETS

  1. Raise awareness on the responsible consumption of resources.
  2. Establish partnerships related to resources management.
  3. Publicize the sustainable materials in the market as well as their uses.
  4. Promote collaborative innovation projects.
  5. Develop European circular economy projects.
